Manufacturers Warranty Info regarding Remanufactured Ink and Toner PDF Print E-mail

You have the right to use the supplies of your choice!

Printer manufacturer warranties state that the use of third-party supplies alone does not void your warranty. Warranties are only voided if the cartridge actually caused the damage. Under these circumstances, the cartridge remanufacturer will repair it.

Hewlett-Packard Inkjet Printers
“For HP printer products, the use of a non-HP ink cartridge or a refilled ink cartridge does not affect either the warranty to the customer or any HP support contract with the customer. However, if printer failure or damage is attributable to the use of a non-HP or refilled ink cartridge, HP will charge its standard time and materials charges to service the printer for the particular failure or damage.”

HP Laser Printers
“Warranty does not apply to defects resulting from (a) improper or inadequate maintenance or calibration, (b) software, interfacing, parts or supplies not supplied by HP, (c) unauthorized modification or misuse, (d) operation outside of the published environmental specifications for the product, or (e) improper site preparation or maintenance.”

Kyocera Mita
“5.1. Support does not include any of the following: …
5.1.6.6. damage caused to the Product by the use of any consumables which are not genuine Kyocera Mita consumables or by the use of any connectivity or other options, accessories or products of a third party which are not Kyocera Mita approved;”

Lexmark
“Warranty service does not include repair of failures caused by:
Modification or attachments.
Accidents or misuse.
Unsuitable physical or operating environment.
Maintenance by anyone other than Lexmark or a Lexmark-authorized servicer.
Operation of a product beyond the limit of its duty cycle.
Use of printing media outside of Lexmark specifications.
Supplies (such as ink) not furnished by Lexmark.
Products, components, parts, materials, software or interfaces not furnished by Lexmark.”

Samsung
“Non-Samsung laser print cartridges: If a non-Samsung print cartridge is found to be the direct cause of printer failure or damage, Samsung will not cover the repair related to that non-Samsung cartridge.”

Xerox
“Xerox shall not be obligated under this Agreement to:
1. Repair damage resulting from attempts by personnel other than Xerox
representative to install, repair or service the product unless directed
by a Xerox representative;
2. Repair any damage, malfunction, or degradation of performance resulting
from improper use or connection to incompatible equipment or memory;
3. Provide any application software support or service involving
application hardware;
4. Repair any damage, malfunction or degradation of performance caused by
the use of non-Tektronix/Xerox supplies or consumables, or Tektronix/Xerox
supplies not specified for use with the particular product.”

These are manufacturer "general warranty" statements. Different countries or regions may have specific laws that impact upon
them.

SSA09 winners: Pegasus defies the Cloud PDF Print E-mail

SSA09 winners: Pegasus defies the Cloud

Article summarised from

AccountingWeb

The annual Software Satisfaction Awards played out the software industry’s generational struggle at the prize ceremony on Thursday night as web-based suppliers picked up most of the awards.

Pegasus, a winner in both the mid-range accounting and payroll categories, was one of the few traditional on-premise suppliers that enjoyed a memorable evening.
In the two other main accounting categories, KashFlow beat rival Cloud developers Arithmo and Liquid, plus the more traditional Diamond Discovery package to the Software Satisfaction Award for small business accounting.
KashFlow won a second award as the highest rated web-based accounting application, ahead of Arithmo, FreeAgent and Pearl Office.
The Enterprise award went to NetSuite, a Cloud-based ERP system that edged out two-time winner PS Financials by a narrow margin. COA Solutions and Integra Enterprise were also shortlisted in this category.
The tax/practice categories demonstrated that specialist tax providers continue to achieve higher ratings than developers of integrated suites. Last year’s tax software winner TaxCalc repeated its success with a satisfaction rating of 3.87 out of 4, while Relate’s DRIVE suite won the practice management prize with a rating of 3.69.
Integrated suite supplier IRIS, however, was in close attendance in both categories, taking second place in practice management and boasting two products on the tax shortlist: PTP Tax Return and Drummohr Tax Assistant, a previous winner of the SSA.
The Paperless Office category was also a lively one for the accounting profession, with Draycir’s Spindle Professional winning the award in the face of close challenges by Mardak Construction Accounts, Version One and Invu. All of these suppliers have close links into finance and accountancy and their solid performance in the user ratings confirm not only that the profession is embracing electronic document management, but that users are achieving the desired results.
More than 20 awards were handed out on the night. Cloud-based developer Salesforce.com won four prizes in the CRM categories and was named Software Vendor of the Year, while Agresso managing director John Crooks received BASDA’s Theo van Dort Award to honour the contribution he has made to promoting collaboration within the business software industry.

The full results can be found on the Software Satisfaction Awards website.

RAID Explained PDF Print E-mail

RAID Explained - Angel Technology Services

RAID used to stand for "redundant array of inexpensive disks". Today it has been updated to "redundant array of independent disks".

RAID is a way of grouping individual physical drives together to form one bigger drive called a "RAID set". RAID can make many smaller disks appear as one large disk to a server. The RAID set represents all the smaller physical drives as one logical disk to your server. The logical disk is called a LUN, or "logical unit number". Using RAID has two main advantages. Better performance and higher availability, which means it goes faster and breaks down less often.

Andrew Cairns -Technical Manager of Angel Technology Services, explains the different types of RAID and their benefits
